Bone Sickness DVD Review

Terminally ill with a degenerative bone disease, Alex (Rich George) is being cared for by his wife Kristen (Darya Zabinski). Desperate for a cure and unable to pay hospital bills, Kristen accepts help from Alex's longtime friend Thomas (Brian Paulin) who works at the local morgue. Thomas gives the reluctant but despairing Kristen bones from corpses to feed to Alex in the hope it will aid his recovery, but when Alex starts vomiting worms Thomas decides fresher bones may be the answer. All hell breaks loose as the dead return to life, incensed by the violation of the deceased, unleashing an unrelenting contagion that threatens to destroy all in it's path.

Bone Sickness is a true labour of love, every scene is crafted by people who understand horror. I have absolutely no interest in the supposed limitations of low budget films, what I'm interested in is being entertained, and this film delivers. The relatively slow paced start introduces us to the characters of the story. The very lovely Ruby LaRocca, who plays Thomas' wife Andrea, and the equally gorgeous Darya Zabinski are both very natural in their roles, and with the ordinary homely settings, create a believable domestic situation that's about to be plunged into the depths of desolation. Rich George manages to look suitably ill as the decrepit Alex, and some of his stunt work is first class, but as for the worm vomiting, well that's just plain nasty. Now to the true stars of the film; the Zombies. You will not see better zombies anywhere. Comparisons to Fulci's finest are not an exaggeration, they really are superb. The gore is quite exceptional too, and when the action starts in the final third of the film, it's totally relentless. Brian Paulin is the man behind this monstrosity, I take my hat off to you sir. Bone Sickness is quite simply the most enjoyable Zombie film for many a year.
