A gang of hoodlums rob a jewellers and head out to a disused oil refinery where they’ve arranged to meet Yakusa mob boss, Ramon (Tate Gouta), and his men, to sell their bounty. Of course, Ramon has no intention of paying for the jewels so out come the guns and the two remaining thieves, Saki (Kaori Shimamura) and the seriously hyperactive Akira (Osamu Ebara) take refuge inside the plant, which just happens to be a secret US lab where experiments with re-animation have gone very wrong. The story shifts gear and we’re treated to an action driven ride as the gorgeous Saki, and the screaming mentalist, Akira, play cat and mouse with the Zombies until the final showdown with the delightfully weird über Zombie (Miwa Yanagizawa).

Junk has a lot going against it; dodgy derivative story, crap make up, bad acting, especially from the appalling American cast... but hey, so what? Akira is funny as hell, the Zombie queen is just plain bizarre and move over Lara Croft, Saki, the man hating Zombie slayer babe is here! It's brilliant fun, fast paced, gory, action packed and bloody entertaining. Highly recommended. S.J.T.
